10-day Taghazout itinerary

Ten days is where progression stops being luck. You get six or seven surf days, two proper rest days and the margin to wait for the right swell.

How this plan works

The difference between a week and ten days is not two extra sessions — it is the ability to wait. On a seven-day trip you surf whatever arrives. On a ten-day trip you can sit out a bad window and still have five days left, which is why almost every visible improvement in surfing happens on the longer stay. This plan front-loads technique, keeps two rest days spaced apart, and holds days 7 and 8 open for whatever the North Atlantic decides to send.

Day 1 — Arrival and reset

Morning. Land at AGA, sort a SIM or eSIM, take the coast road north. 45–60 minutes to Taghazout.

Afternoon. Check in, walk the village, buy supplies, get your board and wetsuit sorted so tomorrow starts on the sand.

Evening. Early dinner, 60–110 MAD, and an early night.

  • Surf note: Optional soft-top hour if you land before noon. Book nothing.
  • Getting there: Airport shuttle €35–45 one way. Grand taxi 250–350 MAD for the car.
  • Typical cost: €35–45 plus 150–250 MAD.
  • If it is flat: Unaffected by swell.

Day 2 — Calibration surf

Morning. Dawn session, two hours maximum. Devil's Rock or Tamraght beach for beginners; Hash Point for everyone else.

Afternoon. Rest, then a short second session at 16:30 if the shoulders allow.

Evening. Fish on the front. Book the first coached session for tomorrow.

  • Surf note: More volume than you think. Almost everyone under-volumes on arrival.
  • Getting there: Everything within 10 minutes of the village.
  • Typical cost: Board €9–11, meals 150–250 MAD.
  • If it is flat: Anza, 25 minutes south, picks up small swell better.

Day 3 — First coached session

Morning. Two hours with a coach and video review — take-off timing and bottom turn are the two things worth paying for.

Afternoon. Free surf on the same peak while the feedback is fresh.

Evening. Dinner in Tamraght, 12 minutes away.

  • Surf note: Same spot as this morning. Repetition beats novelty on day 3.
  • Getting there: Shared taxi Taghazout–Tamraght, 5–10 MAD per seat.
  • Typical cost: €40 coaching, meals 150–250 MAD.
  • If it is flat: Push coaching to the next swell day.

Day 4 — Consolidation day

Morning. Surf alone, no coach, same spot. This is the session where the coaching either sticks or does not.

Afternoon. Light day. Walk to Anchor Point and watch the line-up from the cliff for half an hour; it is the cheapest coaching available.

Evening. Stretch. Check the second-week forecast.

  • Surf note: Resist the urge to change spots. Three sessions on one peak is worth six on six.
  • Getting there: Walking distance only.
  • Typical cost: Board €9–11, meals 150–250 MAD.
  • If it is flat: Bodyboard or bodysurf at Tamraght beach — still useful for wave reading.

Day 5 — First rest day: Paradise Valley

Morning. Inland, 40–50 minutes through the argan hills. Arrive before 10:30 and you have the pools nearly to yourself.

Afternoon. Argan cooperative on the way back, then a long lunch. No surf today.

Evening. Early night. Days 6 to 8 are the working half of the trip.

  • Surf note: Deliberate rest. Ten days without a break costs you the last three.
  • Getting there: Shared day trip €33 per person; taxi 400–500 MAD return with waiting.
  • Typical cost: €33 plus 100–150 MAD lunch.
  • If it is flat: Already the flat-day plan — swap with day 7 if a swell lands today.

Day 6 — Step up a spot

Morning. Move one level: beach break to Devil's Rock, or Hash Point to Panorama. One step, not two, and only on a clean morning.

Afternoon. Second session at the same spot if the wind holds, otherwise the village and a nap.

Evening. Look hard at the 48-hour forecast. Days 7 and 8 get decided tonight.

  • Surf note: Panorama and Devil's Rock both punish late take-offs more than the beach does. That is the point.
  • Getting there: Devil's Rock is 6 km south, about 12 minutes.
  • Typical cost: Board €9–11, meals 150–250 MAD.
  • If it is flat: Stay on the beach break and work on turning rather than on the drop.

Day 7 — Open swell day

Morning. Held open all trip. On a long-period swell this is Anchor Point or Killer Point at first light. On a small one it is the drive to Imsouane.

Afternoon. Follow the morning. If you drove to Imsouane you stay for the afternoon session, which is often the better one.

Evening. Eat properly wherever you ended up.

  • Surf note: Use the best window when you still have three days to recover from it.
  • Getting there: Taghazout–Imsouane 80 km, 80–95 minutes. Shared round trip €44 per person, private €110 return.
  • Typical cost: €44 trip or €9–11 board, plus 150–250 MAD.
  • If it is flat: Imsouane is itself the flat-day answer.

Day 8 — Second open day

Morning. The insurance day. If day 7 delivered, repeat it. If it did not, this is your second attempt at the same window.

Afternoon. Tamri, 30 minutes north, is the alternative: a beach break that handles more size and wind than the points and is almost always emptier.

Evening. Last big dinner of the trip. Sunset dinner in Taghazout runs 120–180 MAD.

  • Surf note: Tamri is exposed and the current runs hard on a bigger swell. It is not a beginner day when the points are big.
  • Getting there: Taghazout–Tamri 30 km, about 30 minutes. Private one way €55, round trip €88.
  • Typical cost: Board €9–11 or transfer €55–88, plus 150–250 MAD.
  • If it is flat: Imsouane again, or a second coached session in small clean surf.

Day 9 — Second rest day or light surf

Morning. A short surf or a yoga session, not both. Nine days in, most people's shoulders are the limiting factor rather than their skill.

Afternoon. Souk El Had in Agadir, 40 minutes south, or the Aourir Wednesday market if the day lines up. Buy the argan oil and spices here rather than at the airport.

Evening. Pack tonight so tomorrow has no admin in it.

  • Surf note: If you surf, keep it to 60 minutes and stay on the easiest wave available.
  • Getting there: Taghazout–Agadir 30–40 minutes. Shared taxi about 30 MAD per seat via Aourir.
  • Typical cost: Market spend variable, meals 150–250 MAD.
  • If it is flat: Perfect flat-day slot as designed.

Day 10 — Final session and departure

Morning. One short surf if the tide and flight allow, then shower, pack and eat. Nothing booked with a fixed start time.

Afternoon. Leave three hours before departure. AGA security backs up when charters overlap.

Evening. Most departures leave 15:00–19:00.

  • Surf note: Rent for two hours rather than booking a session.
  • Getting there: Return shuttle €35–45, booked the night before.
  • Typical cost: €35–45 plus 60–100 MAD.
  • If it is flat: Souk El Had is on the airport road and closes the trip well.

Questions about this itinerary

Is ten days too long for Taghazout?

Not if you use the extra days as margin rather than as more sessions. The value of ten days is the ability to sit out a bad three-day window and still surf five good days. Surfing all ten days is the mistake, not the length of the trip.

Do I need two rest days on a ten-day trip?

Almost everyone does. Paddling load is cumulative and shoulder problems on day 8 are the single most common way a longer trip goes wrong. Two spaced rest days — around day 5 and day 9 — keep the last sessions worth having.

Should I move accommodation during a ten-day trip?

Usually not. Taghazout and Tamraght are 5 km apart and cover the same spots; moving costs you half a day for very little. The one exception is spending two nights in Imsouane if a long small-swell window is forecast.

What does ten days cost on the ground, excluding flights and accommodation?

Two transfers at €35–45, seven board-rental days at €9–11, two coached sessions at €40, two day trips at €33–44, one yoga session, and 150–250 MAD a day for food: roughly €270–340 plus 1,500–2,500 MAD per person.
