Surf resorts: Taghazout Bay or Agadir
Resort pages describe the pool. None of them tells a surfer what the base costs in distance to the waves. That is this page.
In short
An Agadir beachfront resort is about 21 km from Agadir Al Massira (AGA) and has no named surf break inside 5 km — the nearest is Anza at about 5.1 km, and the Taghazout points are roughly 18 km up the coast. A Taghazout base is about 38 km from AGA with 5 named breaks inside 5 km; Tamraght has 6. Closer to the airport means further from the surf, and the two swap places.
What each base costs you in distance
| Base | To AGA airport | Nearest named break | Breaks within 5 km | Within 10 km |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taghazout | 38 km | Hash Point · 0.4 km | 5 | 11 |
| Tamraght | 33 km | Devil’s Rock · 0.4 km | 6 | 11 |
| Agadir | 21 km | Anza · 5.1 km | 0 | 3 |
| Imsouane | 69 km | Imsouane Cathedral · 0.5 km | 1 | 1 |
Straight-line kilometres computed from the stay-zone centroids and the 16 named breaks in the forecast registry. Road distance runs longer — the coast road bends. Town beaches are excluded from "nearest break": the beach you are standing on answers nothing.
Which resorts sit in which base
Taghazout Bay
A purpose-built resort station on the coast road between Tamraght and Taghazout village. No named point break is walkable from it — every session starts with a short drive, north to the Taghazout points or south to Devil’s Rock and Banana Point.

Agadir beachfront
The Agadir bay hotel strip: closest to the airport, furthest from the waves, and the strongest choice when the trip is half surf and half city. Plan a driver or a rental car; this is not a walk-to-the-peak surf base.
- Sofitel Agadir Thalassa Sea & Spa
- Robinson Club Agadir
- Pickalbatros Palais des Roses
- Royal Mirage Agadir

Resort questions
Can you surf from an Agadir resort?
Not on foot. The Agadir beachfront has no named break inside 5 km — the nearest is Anza at about 5.1 km, and Anchor Point, Killer Point and the rest of the Taghazout points sit roughly 18 km up the coast. Agadir city beach itself is a protected bay: it works as a learner beach, not as a point.
Which Taghazout Bay resort is closest to the surf?
None of them is walkable to a named point break. The resort station sits on the coast road between Tamraght and Taghazout village, so the honest answer is that the difference between the properties is a couple of minutes of driving, not a difference in surf access. From a Taghazout base there are 5 named breaks inside 5 km; from Tamraght, 6.
Is a resort or a surf camp better for surfing?
A resort buys comfort and a pool; a camp buys the 6 a.m. call and a guide who already knows which break is working. If you surf every day the camp wins on the water and the resort wins in the evening. Mixed groups often split it: resort week, camp lessons.
Is the airport closer from Agadir?
Yes. Agadir Al Massira (AGA) is about 21 km from an Agadir base and about 38 km from Taghazout — roughly 45–60 minutes by road to the coast. That is the trade: about twenty minutes of arrival comfort against a drive to every surf.
