Is there an airport in Taghazout? No: you land in Agadir (AGA)
Taghazout has no airport of its own. Every surfer flies into Agadir Al Massira (AGA), then drives about 45–60 minutes north along the coast. The flight you pick changes the trip: a cheap red-eye can cost you a surf morning, while a well-timed arrival turns day one into a session.

Which airport to fly into
Agadir Al Massira (AGA) is the only practical airport for a Taghazout surf trip. Marrakech (RAK) is the fallback some travellers consider, but it adds a 3 to 4 hour drive and almost always costs more once ground transfer is included. If a fare to Marrakech looks much cheaper, price the road transfer first. Marrakech only wins when you want to combine the two cities, not for a pure surf week.
Direct routes from Germany, France and the UK
During the surf season (roughly October to April) several European airlines fly direct to Agadir. From Germany look for Condor, TUIfly and occasionally Ryanair or easyJet via a hub. From France, Royal Air Maroc, easyJet and Transavia serve AGA. From the UK, easyJet, TUI and Ryanair fly from London, Manchester and sometimes Bristol or Edinburgh. Schedules change each season, so check current timetables rather than relying on last year's route.
When to book for the best fare
Agadir fares move with surf-season demand. Booking 8 to 12 weeks ahead of travel usually lands in the cheaper window. November and December fill fastest with European surfers escaping winter, so fares peak there. January and February can be cheaper once the holiday rush passes but swell is strong, which is the sweet spot for many travellers.
Board baggage: what to expect
Most European carriers accept surfboards as special baggage for a fee, usually 50 to 100 EUR each way, but policies differ sharply. Condor and TUIfly tend to be board-friendly. Ryanair and easyJet accept boards but charge per leg and enforce strict length limits (often under 3 metres, sometimes under 2.7 m). Always pre-book board baggage online, never at the airport, where the fee is much higher. A board bag under 2.5 m and under 23 kg fits almost every carrier.
Arrival time matters more than price
The mistake we see most is optimising for the cheapest ticket and landing late. A late arrival means a dark transfer, a rushed check-in, and a first surf morning spent recovering. A flight landing between late morning and late afternoon lets you check in daylight, settle the room, eat, and still read the forecast for the next morning. If a late flight saves a little but costs you a surf day, it is usually a bad trade.
From Agadir airport to Taghazout
Once you land, the transfer is straightforward. A pre-booked private or shared shuttle meets you at arrivals and runs directly to Taghazout or Tamraght in about 45–60 minutes. A metered or negotiated taxi works too but confirm the price before you get in. Car rental is an option if you want to explore the coast, but for a pure surf stay in Taghazout it is rarely necessary.
Local planning notes
- Check board-baggage policy on the airline's own page before you book the fare, not after.
- If your board is over 2.7 m, narrow the airline search early; most low-cost carriers cap board length there.
- Taghazout village itself has no airport pickup desk; pre-book the shuttle or arrange it through your stay.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Booking the cheapest fare without checking the board-baggage fee, which can exceed the ticket price.
- Flying into Marrakech to save 60 EUR and then spending 140 EUR and 4 hours on the road.
- Landing after 22:00 and losing the first surf morning to a dark, rushed arrival.
