What you are actually choosing between
There are four realistic ways out of Agadir Al Massira: a pre-booked private transfer, an airport taxi negotiated on the spot, a rental car collected at the terminal, or a taxi into Agadir followed by the coast bus. They differ by about 200 MAD and by roughly an hour of friction. On a two-week trip that gap is trivial; on a three-night trip landing at 23:00 with a nervous group and two board bags, it is the difference between starting the holiday and starting an argument in a car park. Decide before you fly, because the negotiating position at 23:15 in arrivals is not a strong one.
Pre-booked private transfer
A pre-booked car costs EUR 35–45 one way, meets you inside arrivals with your name, and takes 45–60 minutes to Taghazout or 45–60 to Tamraght. What you are buying is not speed — the taxi takes the same road — but certainty: a fixed price, a vehicle sized for your group and boards, a driver who waits if the flight is late, and no negotiation in a language you may not speak. It is the right default for late arrivals, families, groups of four or more, and anyone travelling with a board bag. Book it with your flight number so a delay does not strand you.
Airport taxi on arrival
Grand taxis wait outside the terminal on every flight. The fare to Taghazout is typically 250–350 MAD depending on the hour and how you negotiate, and to Agadir 150–250. There is no meter on this run — agree the total price, for the whole car, before your bags go in the boot, and be clear about how many people and how many bags. This is a perfectly good option in daylight, for two people with normal luggage, who are comfortable haggling. It becomes a poor option with boards, with a group that will not fit in one car, or after midnight.
Renting a car at the airport
The rental desks are in the arrivals hall and a small car runs roughly EUR 25–40 a day plus fuel. A car makes sense if you plan to drive to Imsouane, chase swell up and down the coast, or stay somewhere with no shops within walking distance. It makes much less sense for a standard week in Taghazout or Tamraght, where everything is walkable and the car spends six days parked on a narrow village street. If you do rent, check the roof-rack or estate-car question before booking if you have boards, and note that fuel is cheaper than most of Europe.
Bus and shared taxi, the cheap route
There is no direct bus from the airport terminal to the coast. The cheap route is a petit taxi or the airport shuttle into central Agadir, then bus 32 or 33 up the coast road for around 7 MAD, or a shared grand taxi from the ranks for 10–20 MAD a seat. Total cost is under 100 MAD and total time is roughly two hours with waiting. It is a genuinely fine way to travel if you land in the morning, have light luggage and are not in a hurry. It is a bad idea after dark, with boards, or with anyone who has been awake since 03:00.
Boards, and why they change the answer
A 6'8" board bag will not go in a standard sedan, and a driver who was not told will either refuse or attempt something involving the boot lid and a rope. If you are bringing boards, say so at booking, specify the length and how many, and expect to be given a van or an estate. The same applies to the return leg, which people routinely forget to arrange. If you are hiring boards locally instead, none of this matters — which is one of the quieter arguments for renting at your destination on a short trip.
The return leg and departure timing
Book the return transfer when you book the outbound one, not on your last evening. From Taghazout, allow 60 minutes of driving plus the airline's check-in window: for a European flight, being at the terminal two hours before departure means leaving the village three hours before. That maths kills the final morning surf on an early flight, and it is worth knowing before you build your last day around a dawn session. If your flight is genuinely early, the cleanest version is to sleep the last night in Agadir, which turns a 04:30 start into a 05:30 one.

- Agree the total fare for the whole car before your luggage goes in — there is no meter on the airport run.
- Give your flight number when pre-booking so a delayed landing does not lose your car.
- Declare board bags with lengths and quantity; a standard sedan cannot take them.
