What May actually feels like

May is the sleeper month. Rain is effectively gone, the water passes 19 °C, days run close to 14 hours, and the coast is still empty because European school holidays have not started. Surf is small and friendly rather than powerful, which suits progression: consistent chest-high beach break most mornings and Imsouane Bay for long, slow rides. Advanced surfers should treat any point day as a bonus.

How May feels

A balanced coastal month: more light, easier afternoons and enough surf potential for a mixed week without forcing every day around swell.

Watchwind changes and days where beach comfort matters more than raw surf size.
Avoidtreating the month as guaranteed summer or guaranteed winter.

May questions

Is May too small for an intermediate surfer?

Not for progression work. May gives you volume of waves rather than size — repeated chest-high sets at Banana Point and Devil's Rock, which is exactly what you need to fix a bottom turn. Bring or rent a board with more litres than your usual shortboard.

Why is May quieter than June?

Most European school holidays start later, so May gets June's weather without June's crowd, which is why returning guests keep rebooking it. Our package price is the same in both months: only nights from 25 December to 15 January cost up to 10% more.

Can I surf in a shorty in May?

By mid-afternoon, yes, on a one-hour session. Water sits near 19 °C, so a shorty works for a short surf but a 3/2 is still the sensible choice for a dawn session or anything over 90 minutes.

Is May a good month for Taghazout?

Yes, if its season profile matches your priority: surf, beach comfort, family time, remote work or a slower coastal week.

Should I choose accommodation before checking the forecast?

Choose the stay location for the week first, then use the forecast to shape each surf or activity day.

Do I need a live forecast after choosing the month?

Yes. The month helps with the travel window; the forecast decides the daily surf and activity plan.

How much does a Taghazout stay cost?

For 7 nights per person in a standard shared room: surf from €545, yoga and surf from €515, cowork and stay from €456. Cowork for 28 nights starts at €1824. Prices adapt to the requested nights and room category. Your request is subject to review. We check availability and confirm your reservation before enabling deposit payment. Nothing is charged when you send this request.
