What kind of wave is Anza?
Anza is an A-frame peak with a left and a right over sand with rock underneath. Anza needs a swell from SW–NW (235°–305°) at 0.5–1.6 m and 7–14 s to switch on. The wind decides as much as the swell: Anza holds its shape from the NE–SE sector (45°–135°) and goes ragged once it swings onshore. Anza is the closest quality wave to Agadir, and the honest caveat is the water: an outfall near the port gave it a bad reputation, better in recent years but still worth a look before a long session.
What tide does Anza work on?
Anza works best from mid to high tide. Anza needs the water to fill in before it is worth paddling out; on the drain it is shallow and short. You get into Anza off the beach and walk out.
Who should surf Anza, and how busy is it?
Anza suits beginners and intermediates. Anza fills up when the forecast is obvious and empties again when it is not. At Anza the things to watch are water quality, which has a history here and scattered rock plates in the sand. If Anza is too big, too crowded or simply wrong on the day, Agadir Beach is the nearest useful swap, and a guided session from our own desk puts a local in the water with you rather than sending you out cold.

Anza surf forecast — quick questions
Can a beginner surf Anza?
On a small, clean day yes, but with a caveat: Anza breaks over sand with rock underneath, so a beginner belongs on the inside and nowhere near the top of the peak. With any size in it, Agadir Beach is the honest answer.
How cold is the water at Anza, and what wetsuit do I need?
The sea off Anza runs about 17–19 °C from December to March and 21–23 °C in late summer. That is the figure for this whole stretch of coast rather than a reading taken at the spot, so plan on a 4/3 mm wetsuit in winter and a 3/2 mm or a springsuit in September. Today's measured sea temperature is in the live board above this guide.
