What kind of wave is La Source?
La Source is a reef peak that breaks both left and right over a flat rock slab. La Source needs a swell from W–NNW (275°–340°) at 0.9–2.2 m and 9–17 s to switch on. The wind decides as much as the swell: La Source holds its shape from the NE–SE sector (55°–140°) and goes ragged once it swings onshore. La Source sits between Killer Point and the Anchor Point stretch, and it is one of the few breaks along here that gives a left as readily as a right.
What tide does La Source work on?
La Source works best from mid to high tide. The slab under La Source sits close to the surface at low water, which is when it stops being a wave to experiment on. Getting in and out of La Source is a timed jump off the rocks, and that is the part that hurts people here, not the wave.
Who should surf La Source, and how busy is it?
La Source suits intermediates and advanced surfers. La Source fills up when the forecast is obvious and empties again when it is not. At La Source the things to watch are the rock slab underneath and a current that runs along the point. If La Source is too big, too crowded or simply wrong on the day, Hash Point is the nearest useful swap, and a guided session from our own desk puts a local in the water with you rather than sending you out cold.

La Source surf forecast — quick questions
Can a beginner surf La Source?
No. La Source is not a first-week wave, and what rules it out is the rock slab underneath. Panorama Point is where a beginner should be instead.
How cold is the water at La Source, and what wetsuit do I need?
The sea off La Source runs about 17–19 °C from December to March and 21–23 °C in late summer. That is the figure for this whole stretch of coast rather than a reading taken at the spot, so plan on a 4/3 mm wetsuit in winter and a 3/2 mm or a springsuit in September. Today's measured sea temperature is in the live board above this guide.
