What kind of wave is Mysteries?
Mysteries is a right-hand point break over reef. Mysteries needs a swell from W–NNW (275°–340°) at 0.9–2.3 m and 9–17 s to switch on. The wind decides as much as the swell: Mysteries holds its shape from the NE–SE sector (55°–140°) and goes ragged once it swings onshore. Mysteries keeps its reputation for quality precisely because it stays quiet, and it has never been written up in the detail the famous points have.
What tide does Mysteries work on?
No published source gives Mysteries a single tide rule, and our own sessions have not produced one either. Read the water at Mysteries from the shore before you commit, because there is no published tide window to fall back on. Getting in and out of Mysteries is a timed jump off the rocks, and that is the part that hurts people here, not the wave. Only one published reference describes Mysteries in any detail, so this guide stays with what that source and our own sessions actually support.
Who should surf Mysteries, and how busy is it?
Mysteries suits intermediates and advanced surfers. Mysteries rarely draws a crowd, and on a weekday you may share it with nobody. At Mysteries the things to watch are rock under the take-off and how far it is from help. If Mysteries is too big, too crowded or simply wrong on the day, La Source is the nearest useful swap, and a guided session from our own desk puts a local in the water with you rather than sending you out cold.

Mysteries surf forecast — quick questions
Can a beginner surf Mysteries?
No. Mysteries is not a first-week wave, and what rules it out is rock under the take-off. Panorama Point is where a beginner should be instead.
How cold is the water at Mysteries, and what wetsuit do I need?
The sea off Mysteries runs about 17–19 °C from December to March and 21–23 °C in late summer. That is the figure for this whole stretch of coast rather than a reading taken at the spot, so plan on a 4/3 mm wetsuit in winter and a 3/2 mm or a springsuit in September. Today's measured sea temperature is in the live board above this guide.
