What kind of wave is Killer Point?
Killer Point is a right-hand point break over reef. When it lines up, a ride at Killer Point runs about 300 to 500 metres. Killer Point needs a swell from WNW–NNW (285°–345°) at 1.2–3.0 m and 11–19 s to switch on. The wind decides as much as the swell: Killer Point holds its shape from the NE–SE sector (55°–140°) and goes ragged once it swings onshore. Killer Point is the swell magnet of this coast: it picks up the biggest waves in the area and will be breaking on a low north-westerly while the village spots are still flat. It is named for the orcas that pass offshore.
