What kind of wave is Anchor Point?
Anchor Point is a right-hand point break over reef. When it lines up, a ride at Anchor Point runs about 200 to 400 metres. Anchor Point needs a swell from W–NNW (275°–340°) at 1.0–2.6 m and 10–18 s to switch on. The wind decides as much as the swell: Anchor Point holds its shape from the NE–SE sector (55°–135°) and goes ragged once it swings onshore. Anchor Point is the wave this region is known for, and on a long-period northwest swell the wall runs from the boulders at the top of the point all the way through to the inside.
