What kind of wave is KM12?

KM12 is a reef peak that breaks both left and right over a flat rock slab. KM12 needs a swell from WSW–NW (240°–310°) at 0.8–2.0 m and 8–16 s to switch on. The wind decides as much as the swell: KM12 holds its shape from the NE–SE sector (45°–135°) and goes ragged once it swings onshore. KM12, Le Douze to the locals, is one of very few dependable lefts on this coast, and it behaves like a beach break even though there is rock underneath.

What tide does KM12 work on?

KM12 works best from mid to high tide. There is rock well below the surface at KM12, and low water is when you notice it is there. You get into KM12 off the beach and walk out.
