What kind of wave is KM11?
KM11 is an A-frame peak with a left and a right over a flat rock slab. KM11 needs a swell from WSW–NW (240°–310°) at 0.8–2.0 m and 8–16 s to switch on. The wind decides as much as the swell: KM11 holds its shape from the NE–SE sector (45°–135°) and goes ragged once it swings onshore. KM11 is the heavier of the two roadside reefs at Tamraght: the take-off stands up steeper than anything else here and the left runs along an open wall.
What tide does KM11 work on?
KM11 works best from low to mid tide. Once the tide fills in, KM11 goes fat and loses the steep take-off that makes it worth the drive. You can enter KM11 off the sand or off the rocks depending on where the bank has moved.
Who should surf KM11, and how busy is it?
KM11 suits intermediates and advanced surfers. KM11 fills up when the forecast is obvious and empties again when it is not. At KM11 the things to watch are the rock slab underneath and a take-off that stands up steeply. If KM11 is too big, too crowded or simply wrong on the day, KM12 is the nearest useful swap, and a guided session from our own desk puts a local in the water with you rather than sending you out cold.

KM11 surf forecast — quick questions
Can a beginner surf KM11?
No. KM11 is not a first-week wave, and what rules it out is the rock slab underneath. Devil’s Rock is where a beginner should be instead.
How cold is the water at KM11, and what wetsuit do I need?
The sea off KM11 runs about 17–19 °C from December to March and 21–23 °C in late summer. That is the figure for this whole stretch of coast rather than a reading taken at the spot, so plan on a 4/3 mm wetsuit in winter and a 3/2 mm or a springsuit in September. Today's measured sea temperature is in the live board above this guide.
