What kind of wave is Tamri?
Tamri is a beach break with shifting peaks over sand. Tamri needs a swell from W–NNW (260°–340°) at 0.8–2.4 m and 8–16 s to switch on. The wind decides as much as the swell: Tamri holds its shape from the ENE–SSE sector (60°–150°) and goes ragged once it swings onshore. Tamri catches swell that never reaches the village, which makes it the answer on a flat week and the wrong answer on a big one.
What tide does Tamri work on?
Tamri works at every stage of the tide. Because the bottom at Tamri is sand all the way, the tide changes the size and the shape but never takes the wave away. You get into Tamri off the beach and walk out.
Who should surf Tamri, and how busy is it?
Tamri suits intermediates and advanced surfers. Tamri rarely draws a crowd, and on a weekday you may share it with nobody. At Tamri the things to watch are rips that set up as soon as there is size, wind that arrives earlier here than in the village and how far it is from help. If Tamri is too big, too crowded or simply wrong on the day, Boilers is the nearest useful swap, and a guided session from our own desk puts a local in the water with you rather than sending you out cold.

Tamri surf forecast — quick questions
Can a beginner surf Tamri?
No. Tamri is not a first-week wave, and what rules it out is rips that set up as soon as there is size. Panorama Point is where a beginner should be instead.
How cold is the water at Tamri, and what wetsuit do I need?
The sea off Tamri runs about 17–19 °C from December to March and 21–23 °C in late summer. That is the figure for this whole stretch of coast rather than a reading taken at the spot, so plan on a 4/3 mm wetsuit in winter and a 3/2 mm or a springsuit in September. Today's measured sea temperature is in the live board above this guide.
